About

I’m Dennis Zimmermann and I am passionate about Yukon and Southeast Alaska fishing

I would like to be out there on those vast Yukon waters trolling for Lakers or slamming Coho on wild Alaskan River much more than I can afford these days. The full time job, young family at home, and volunteer commitments keep me close to my home in Whitehorse. Currently, my trout bum, sleeping on the side of the river, extreme hike-in fishing adventures are on hold. I try to get out at least once a week on a local lake in my belly boat to chuck some flies at unsuspecting Rainbows. A couple times a year, I take a trip to Haines or Skagway, Alaska for any one of the Dolly Varden or Salmon runs. Other than that, the Yukon boasts great fishing for Northern Pike, Grayling, Lake Trout, King Salmon, Kokannee, Whitefish, and Burbot.

Why Yukon Fishing?

What makes the Yukon such a great place to fish? We have roads, lodges, hotels, campgrounds, boat launches, guides and accessibility into places where you are the only one enjoying the lake.  On one extreme there are many remote spots where you can jostle with Grizzly Bears for prime fishing spots. On the other extreme you can take your kids out for a safe and comfortable all-day fishing adventure.  In addition to wild places, we have a large number of stocked pothole lakes, part of the two hour, after work, fish-therapy routine. For a few months in the summer, the midnight sun gives you the opportunity to fly-fish, troll or chuck spoons into rivers, lakes, oceans or any little eddy until well past mid-night. As far as Southeast Alaska is concerned its two to four hours by car and its just Alaska, enough said.

Philosophy

Fishonyukon.com is all about getting Yukoner’s and anyone else out there talking about Yukon and Southeast Alaska fishing.  It is an attempt at building a friendly, relevant, respectful, and sharing community of Yukon anglers. You don’t have to own a boat, or even know how to fish to participate. You just have to want to share, learn from others and have respect for fish. We are blessed with wide-open spaces and clean water in the Yukon, let’s keep it that way. I believe that introducing people to fishing will create more stewards of the land and ultimately protect the fishing resource even further.  Finally, and most importantly of all, help kids get away from the Playstation and take them fishing. The lessons learned by both child and teacher, especially later in life, are invaluable.

Fish-Marketing Services

Given that I am not out on the water as much as I would like, I spend a great deal of time reading about, writing about and photographing Yukon fishing and fishing related activities.  I have also found that I can’t quit my day job as a Marketing and Communications professional for a Whitehorse-based company called Outcrop Yukon and fish full-time either. This has all led me to want to combine my talents and passion and offer just about any marketing and communications services to a fish or fishing related cause.  I can provide the following fish-marketing services:

Fishing Related Businesses

  • Write fishing stories for publications (web and print)
  • Write web-copy for your fishing website
  • Developing print and trade show materials (i.e. brochures, rack cards, sales packages, booths, videos)
  • Market research for your fishing business
  • Identifying cooperative marketing opportunities
  • Media planning and tours
  • Sales and general marketing
  • Funding applications for business and marketing programs

Government and Non-Governmental Organizations

  • Developing and delivering fishing related publications, programs, events or other materials (i.e. fishing with kids, conservation materials, family fishing days)
  • Funding applications for conservation or social marketing campaigns
