As you have noticed I have a new obsession with kayak fishing. This was further reinforced with an absolutely spectacular fishing extravaganza last Saturday at Snafu Lake. The trip was facilitated by Up North Adventures and H2O Troutfitter. Our group of eight kayaked to the first lake over the beaver dam and enjoyed the day casting for Pike. About half on the fly and the other with lures. All but one caught fish. The shore lunch was amazing. Minnow patterns (like Rapalas, fished just under the surface) were a hit along with chunky white/red, yellow/black and orange bunny flies. The pike were aggressive and came up from about 12 feet of water to hit within a foot from the surface. I spent some time in some junkyard weedbeds with top-water lures attracting a few killer lunges but no hook-ups. Again the most success was working little bays from end to end casting into the shallows and dragging across the deeper sections. Not too much luck trolling, it was virtually all casting and retrieving.
