Ice-Fishing Scout Lake Yukon

I was looking for a local fishing opportunity and decided to pass up Pumphouse and Hidden in favour of rainbow stocked Scout Lake. Scout Lake is off the old Alaska Highway and very easy to access. It is a small lake with a spectacular view of the Ibex Valley in the distance. Prior to departure I gave my friend Rod at Uncommon Journeys a call.  Rod lives at the end of the Scout Lake road and regularly mushes his dogs in this area. The word on Scout Lake is that its a tough lake to fish in the summer but in the winter it can be pretty good. Upon arrival we were surprised to see two large groups spread out over the entrance of the lake. Not knowing the area too well I punched in three holes from shore, off what I would consider a point. Ice was quite thick, almost 3 and a half feet. First hole about six feet, second about 10 and the third about 12 feet.  This would work for now. Dropped in one stationary shrimp, one little mepps being jigged and a third little wormy thing jigged. It was a beautiful day with a slight southern wind, but no action. As far as I could tell the other parties were not having any luck either. Scout Lake was a bust for my first time. I’ll have to go back again.  Anyone with any tips or stories from Scout they care to share?

Gave Scout a few hours worth of two line fishing a couple weeks back, One thumping big tug on a shimp and that was it. No fish, no more bites nothing. Scout can be good when the fish are turned on but it has been a while since I witnessed it.

Off to drill a hole in the Pumphouse Pond this afternoon

Hopefully with better results
