Hi Everyone,
The lake finished turning over last week and the fishing has really turned on; both for the fly fishermen, spin casters and trollers.
With our last group we have three new pending world records for lake white fish. Congratulations to Mark, David and Eric, 1 junior and 2 line class records and all were taken with flies.
The fly fishing has been excellent for all three species of fish. The lake trout have been taking egg sucking leeches, scud patterns and damsels. We are also starting to see some caddis on the surface, and this should make for some great dry fly fishing. The spin casters have been doing great with 5 of diamonds, Kitimat patterns and bright green spoons. The trollers have been having great success with the larger spoons, 5 of diamonds in both yellow and pink, half wave, blue and silver hammered spoons and jigs of various colors have been working well. The whitefish, pike and smaller trout are in the shallow water, 2-10 feet, making for some great sight fishing on the shoals.
We had a great night last night in deeper water 50 - 70 feet using jigs, trolling, with trout from 15-40 lbs. It is unusual for this time of the year to be catching fish that deep.
We now have 24 hours of daylight and sunshine with lots of sun tans and burns for our last guests. This week we have guests from England, Scotland, Colorado, Ontario and Florida. The English boys are definitely getting sun burns!
We had a big lightning storm a couple of days ago with three fires already visible from the lake but a long ways off. With the smoke in the air we should get some terrific sunset pictures.
Lots of wildlife is still being seen along the lake with one group seeing a cow and calf moose being chased by a bear. Hopefully the calf got away.
We have planted the garden, I know some of you will get a laugh out of the picture but they were old boats that had seen better days and as a planter they really work here as the ground is so cold. In three days the radishes were starting to come up. With twenty-four hours of day light things grow fast up here.
Well it’s time to go and see how everyone is doing fishing and maybe do some myself.
Talk to you next week,
Brian
