It was a big trip with a ton of planning. I have wanted to ice-fish Kathleen for a while now as I have seen many pictures of large fish coming out of holes. It was an incredible day with one exception…no fish. We tried everything, different presentations, looking for structure and a shelf, different baits, etc.. Not a bite. We did everything right except for one thing…we did not fish different depths. I was so obsessed with having my lure on the botton I did not think that in 138 feet of water they might be cruising at a different depth. What a rookie mistake. When I fish in the summer I vary my depths trying to find them somewhere in the water column, but I totally forgot to do it ice-fishing.
I am determined to go back and give it another go! I’ll keep you posted.
