October 07, 2008 - Chilkat and Chilkoot Rivers in Haines Alaska

Just came back from a quick Sunday-Tuesday trip and the water was high and dirty in both rivers.  Good news is that it is dropping very quickly.  Could be clear by Thanksgiving weekend as long as it does not rain.  Chilkoot River bears are crazy active with two having been collared last week.  There is an older male cruising the strip every 45 mins or so…back and forth.  Fishing is slow but there could be a rush for the thanksgiving weekend. Fish are definitely in the system but in my opinion the majority have not come through. Good luck and let me know how it goes.  I’ll post some pics when I have some time.
