It’s getting closer to hard water time. So close that Dave sent me an email to entice me with his sweet new underwater camera. If you have seen these in action (or on Youtube) they make ice fishing an adrenaline game. Instead of mindlessly staring at a hole and waiting for something to set, you can watch fish sniff, approach and possibly take the set. It can also be a frustrating technological advance watching plenty of fish ignore your presentation…but ain’t that fishing. I am sure I’ll be getting some of Dave’s most memorable clips this winter and hopefully generating my own. Stay tuned as I (try) and introduce video to the site.
On a related note, another passionate Yukon underwater efficianodo is Doug Davidge. he’s got a company called Underwater Video North specializing in “provid(ing) underwater Remote Operated Vehicle service for exploring our northern waters.“ Doug has a couple of great videos including the habits of northern species in Yukon waters. Personal favourits are the burbot doing their thing. I’ll take my hat off to anyone that make’s the habits of burbot exciting.
The ice coming in also has me thinking about a great video he shot during break-up on Little Atlin and the habits of large Pike.
Now that I’ve got this Youtube embedding thing figured out, send me any videos or posts worth linking to. Tight lines.
Underwater cameras kinda seem like cheating. But that is just my opinion. I personally have never used one but probably will someday.
I agree with icefishingpro..using a camera to help one catch more fish is cheating, it takes the excitement out of fishing; it’s the same with depth sounders..I never use one when fishing! ...I have never used my u/w camera gear for angling…only to capture images of fish. Capturing a fish on video is just as exciting as catching the fish.
I like the new look of the web site…thanks again for posting my videos…there is another on YouTube - Snafu Lake Whitefish. Cheers
