It drives me nuts at how many snagged fish are being taken from the Chilkat River. This is a really easy river to fish. You can fish from shore with running shoes if you want and get into fresh, wild salmon. Give the fish a chance and take those home that take it in the mouth. I totally understand how frustrating it is to invest a few days into fishing and not catching fish. The snagging is often unavoidable but the keeping is under our control. We have a gem of a resource that our Alaskan neighbours share with us…lets not abuse it. It is illegal to keep snagged fish…period. Pleased to see some signs posted around this year.

Thanks brother, while I get the gears from the family coming home without fish (sometimes), I can sleep at night. We should also applaud the Alaskan Board of Fisheries for finally doing something proactive and educational. I would love to see them bust a few people with some fines. Alaskan’s are good to us with the reciprocal lisences. If I don’t take my shoes off in someones house, after a while I stopped getting invited.
