Talk about an all-inclusive Yukon ice-fishing experience! Imagine showing up to a lake, being able to buy a fishing liscence, someone hands you bait, Sam drills the hole, you fish and even if you don’t catch anything you can take fresh burbot fillets home. I owe it all to the great organization of the Yukon Fish and Game Association and their annual Pine Lake Ice Fishing Day. Pine Lake is just outside of Haines Junction, featuring the Kluane Mountain Range as a backdrop. Pine Lake has populations of Pike, Whitefish, Lake Trout and Burbot. The weather was incredible, spirits were high, the fishing was lousy, but it was all worth it. Bison burgers, treats and prizes for the kids, snowmobile rides to check set lines, and then great fresh fillets of burbot. This is one ice-fish not to miss. The Lake Lebarge family ice-fishing day is April 22nd. Don’t miss it!
