After fishing Kathleen Lake in the morning I took off with some friends to fish Fish Lake that evening. Unfortunately a huge surprised, the ice was still on 98% of the lake. Took off to Lebarge instead.
Reports from the campground suggested that no fish had been caught in a few days. Most people were fishing the southern end of the lake. We decided to go north and fish some spots with structure and differing depths on the west side. Fished for about two hours with nothing and then I put an extra large red devil spoon on and fished about 25-30ft trolling nice a slow. I hooked a nice size laker.
Unfortunately, the gong show began. My one buddy accidentally hooked the net with his treble hook sealing it shut. Without a net, my other buddy decided to tail and then palm the 6-8 pound laker. He tailed it and then it popped the hook, he dropped it and it was free. I lost my first laker of the year. After the initial shock, we laughed and the best part was my buddy kept wanting me to smell the fish smell off his hand the whole way back to shore. This was wrong for so many reasons.
Lets help Stacie and Stephanie…any tips or suggestions?
