Hi everyone,
Hope that you are all having a great summer. We have had a bit of an unusual cool spell the last few days but it is now turing around and the sun it out.
There has been lots of wildlife around the lodge, rabbits all over. Somehow I don’t think the girls feeding them has anything to do with it and I am waiting to see what they (girls) think when the rabbits get in the garden.
We had a cow moose and calf in front of the lodge and then another cow moose with twins - 30 feet from staff and guests - a wolf was chasing them until the arrived in front of the lodge. Bears are being sigted along the lake every day.
Our guests have been from Toronto, Vancouver, Edmonton, Washington and California. There has been a mix of troll/spin casters and fly fishers and all have done well except for a couple of days when the lake was too rough to go out and fish. A couple of nights ago we had the best fishing so far this season - lots of 30 - 40 pound trout, using mostly jigs and trolling. The fly fishing has been great in the shallow waters for both trout and lake whitefish. We have been catching pike over 40 inches using bright coloured flies. Caid flies, travellers sedge are starting to show up, making for great dy fly fishing for lake trout and lake whitefish. The best whitefish fishing is right in front of the lodge.
The patterns and colours of spoons hasn’t changed much since the last report. Jigs are being used earlier that last year and the dark colours are working well.
We still have 24 hours of daylight - meaning endless hours of fishing - one fisherman went 24 hours around the clock a couple of days ago. The only wasy we know that it is sun rise is from the birds singing.
Talk to you soon,
Brian & Staff
