Nothing going on!!!! I took off for Haines yesterday for a full day of fishing. I fished the first high tide of the day from 5am to noon straight and not a bite. I tried fly and baitcaster, different areas. There were about a dozen people fishing with me and no action. They are coming through the weir but not taking anything. There were no Pinks to be seen either. I spoke with a few people and they say that the water is high and clear. This spooks the already spooky Sockeye. Saw a few jump and watched a Grizzly pull one out of the weir. The person at the Canadian Border mentioned that since last Friday she has known of one SOckeye being caught by a Yukoner passing through.
Let me know if anyone has better luck!
Thanks for the update Dennis ...you’ve made me feel better after my Haines trip was delayed for a week. Heading out on Monday for a few days… Ill let you know how it goes.
Cheers

Hi again Dennis - If it makes you feel any better the fishing in Haines for reds is still sloooowwww - fished the high tide earlier today and the low tide this evening - nada a sockeye to be had :-(
A few pinks though - thats about it - even they are slow at the moment. Yesterday there were about 800 reds through the weir but today only around 400 - which is about 400 more than anyone was catching anyway.
Weather is quite blustery, cool (about 14c) and overcast - tomorrow the wind should die down a bit and well try again (we will anyway even if its a huricanne - the worst day fishing is still better than the best day working).
Looking at the forecast its supposed to heat up to 21c for the weekend but of course I have to head back to the horse on Thursday.
Cheers Mano
Geo
