A few days ago I recommended a fly-tying craft in a post call Tying One on this Christmas. . I decided to put the safety pin to the test with my four and seven year old boys. They both handled it really well and came up with some nifty flies. They got creative with materials and created some spaced-out Woolly Bugger type flies.
As you can imagine I had to help them a fair bit, but they are still proud as can be. They both want to display them on their backpacks at school tomorrow. Best part of all, is that I killed close to an hour this evening bringing them even closer to bedtime.
Glad to see the safety pin flies were a hit. My grandson (2 years old) sports a few on his hat; he also likes big flies and bold colors.
Sharing fly tying with others is critical to the craft. It is reassuring to know that, somewhere up north, a couple of youngsters are wrapping and hackling for our future.

Thanks Russ. Really appreciated the story and hope other families are sitting at the bench together this Christmas.
Take care, Dennis
