Cabin Fever? Tie Some Knots

We all know that winter last longer than summer here in Yukon. If you are not the type to get out ice-fishing and would rather torture yourself by dreaming of fishing open water lakes, you have to keep yourself busy. One great activity is to practice your knots. I would suggest cutting a large piece of cord about a foot and a half long and leave it next to the couch. Pick it up practice a knot or two and by summer you’ll have them etched into your muscular memory.

Which knots to practice? Personally I am a two to three knot kind of guy. If spin fishing you’ve got to know the improved clinch knot and the arbor knot.  If fly-fishing I would suggest adding the blood knot for tippet to leader , and the nail knot for leader to line.

Having said that there are also a couple that are fun to practice and will give you some bragging rights on the water if you can apply them.  I am thinking the dropper knot or the rapala knot. .

Thanks Mike for sending the link for these websites.  if you are less inclined to working with static images, a quick search on youtube will get a relevant video for each knot. Happy twisting.
